Frequently Asked Questions

Answers for Shopify merchants preparing to install or operate ShelfOps for catalog reconcile, collection sorting, schedules, safety backups, metrics, and billing.

What does
ShelfOps do?

Catalog operations

Answer

ShelfOps helps Shopify merchants manage catalog reconcile, collection products, collection sorting rules, schedules, collection-order safety backup metadata, metrics, execution logs, and access-scope visibility from one focused workspace.

Why are Shopify
permissions needed?

Access scopes

Answer

ShelfOps needs Shopify permissions so it can read the catalog and collection data required for the features a merchant enables. Some workflows also require write access, such as applying a merchant-approved collection sort order. Optional permissions are used only when the related feature is enabled or needed.

Which data
is synced?

Shopify API data

Answer

ShelfOps can sync store identity, products, variants, collections, inventory, publication, market, translation, metaobject, file, discount, and theme data when the related access scopes are granted. Order and inventory readiness data may be used only when optional access is granted.

Does ShelfOps change
products automatically?

Merchant configured

Answer

ShelfOps is designed around merchant-configured workflows. Catalog reconcile and previews provide visibility. Collection sorting changes happen through rules and schedules configured by the merchant, and merchants should review settings before applying or scheduling changes.

Rules and schedules

Rules define how ShelfOps should order products in a Shopify collection. Schedules can run those configured rules at selected times. When a sorting workflow is applied, the product order in the affected Shopify collection can change.

What are
backups used for?

Safety backups

Answer

Collection-order safety backup metadata helps merchants understand the previous order before a shuffle and supports rollback workflows. It is not a replacement for merchant review, Shopify admin review, or store QA.

How do billing
and trials work?

Shopify Billing

Answer

Paid plans and trials are handled through Shopify Billing where applicable. Shopify may show the approval, trial, renewal, and cancellation details inside the Shopify admin before charges are accepted.

What happens
after uninstall?

Data deletion

Answer

After uninstall or a verified deletion request, ShelfOps removes or anonymizes merchant data unless retention is required for legal, security, fraud prevention, billing, dispute, or operational recordkeeping reasons.
